Frigidaire Recalls 600,000 Mini Fridges in U.S. Over Fire Risk

Frigidaire Recalls 600,000 Mini Fridges in the U.S. Due to Fire Hazard

Frigidaire, a leading U.S. appliance manufacturer and the third-largest by revenue after GE and Whirlpool, has issued a massive recall of 600,000 mini fridges sold across the United States over fire risk concerns.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), certain models of Frigidaire mini fridges have been found to pose a fire hazard due to overheating, which can lead to sparking, smoke, and even flames after extended use.

Reports of Damage and Injuries

The CPSC reported at least 26 incidents, including $700,000 in property damage and two cases of consumers receiving medical treatment for smoke inhalation.

Models and Sales Period

The recall affects models EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175, which were sold nationwide at Walmart stores, Amazon, and other retailers between January 2020 and December 2023.

Safety Guidance

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the affected products and contact Frigidaire for a full refund. The recalled mini fridges are also available in international markets, including South Korea through online platforms such as Coupang.

The CPSC advises checking the model number on the product label before seeking a refund or replacement.
